Accessibility statement for Walberswick Parish Council

The following Accessibility Statement was approved by Walberswick Parish Council at its meeting on 14th September 2020 and first published on this website on 15th September 2020

This accessibility statement applies to the specific pages of the Walberswick Village website that are hosted on or below the following webpage: http://walberswick.onesuffolk.net/walberswick-parish-council/

The rest of the pages on the Walberswick Village website are covered by a separate accessibility statement that can be viewed at: http://walberswick.onesuffolk.net/home/contact-us/accessibility/

This part of the Walberswick village website is run by Walberswick Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

• change colours, contrast levels and fonts

•  zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen

•  navigate most of the website using just a keyboard

•  navigate most of the website using speech recognition software

•  listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability (note: this website is hosted externally and opens in a new window)

How accessible this website is:

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible

• you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text

• most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software

• we can’t guarantee the full accessibility of tables to screen reader software

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Walberswick Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard (Note: this website is hosted externally and opens in a new window) due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs do not currently meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role value). At the time of publishing this statement, 4 of the 13 sub-sections of the Walberswick Parish Council website have had all required .pdfs made accessible. Over the next 12 months it is planned that all remaining sections will have all required .pdfs made accessible

Disproportionate burden

Interactive tools and transactions

Our forms are built and hosted through third party software and ‘skinned’ to look like our website. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (information and relationships). We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues and believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations (Note: this website is hosted externally and opens in a new window). We will make another assessment when the supplier contract is up for renewal.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 (Note: this website is hosted externally and opens in a new window) if they’re not essential to providing our services and none of the relevant .pdfs are deemed essential, so we currently have no plans to make these documents accessible. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are constantly looking at our website accessibility alongside our website developers and where we can improve on it we shall. We follow a specific set of guidelines to ensure all our new content meets the WCAG 2.1 Standard.
